PROUDLY Wearing Southland Colours
Helping Farmers Grow More Pasture with Less Fert
RJ Agri - Spread & Measure is trusted across Southland for straight-talking advice and fast, practical farm solutions. Since 2010, we’ve stayed in the paddock and worked alongside our region’s farms.
OUR SOLUTIONS ARE FOCUSED ON SOLVING REAL FERTILISER PROBLEMS
We know Southland farming. It's like no other place in NZ.
Real Southland experience
We've lived and worked in Southland for years. We love this place and the farmers that work the land. Southland soils and conditions are unique and our local knowledge and expertise mean you get plans that fit your farm, for the conditions on your farm, not off-the-shelf answers.
Fast, honest answers that mean something
We are not here to bamboozle you with jargon and corporate gobbledygook. We say what we mean and tell it like it is. There is no point beating around the bush. You need answers, we've got the help.
Proven over decades on Southland farms
We don't just work here, we live here. Our goal is simple: Give farmers the best, most cost-effective, efficient, sustainable fertiliser solutions that work. Over many years we've developed systems and plans we know work on Southland farms.
No nonsense — Fertiliser can be simple
Farmers have been conditioned to think that fertiliser is complicated, so leave it to the experts. Only those experts often don't have your best interests at heart. We don’t, and won't over-complicate, just straightforward work that gets results helping you manage a better farm.
OUR STORY
From grassroots to growth
I'm Rudi, and along with my wife Jolanda, we've built our life and business here in the heart of Southland. As a former dairy farmer myself, I've lived the constant struggle of fertiliser optimisation, what to put on, how much, and when. Questions the big players in the industry always seemed to answer the same way: "put more. on"
But the "put more on" approach just wasn't working. I spent countless dollars doing as I was told, and for what? Growth was inconsistent, soils compacted, and while the pasture was growing, it wasn't as healthy as it should have been.
Then I came across a simpler idea, feed the plant what it needs, when it needs it. A plant needs nutrients to grow when it metabolises energy. If those nutrients aren't available in the soil because they've been locked up, leached, or volatilised, growth suffers. The solution was straightforward: apply fertiliser less, but more often.
I was one of the first contractors in New Zealand to purchase and operate a Tow & Fert machine, the perfect instrument for applying less, more often, and doing it evenly across every paddock. The control it gave farmers, the savings it delivered, and the dry matter growth it achieved beat anything I'd done before. It was proof of concept.
Since 2022, we've grown our team and machinery, and extended our offering to provide a complete solution for farmers across the Southland region. We now offer a full circle Spread & Measure service, applying liquids, UFP, solid fertilisers, and bio-stimulant products, then measuring the results. Because if you don't measure whether what you're applying is working, you can't make informed decisions about what to apply next.
And it's an important point, we start where you're ready to start. Whether that's a one-paddock trial or a single product trial, you can see for yourself whether the Less More Often approach is right for your farm and system.
Our approach saves farmers money on fertiliser inputs and application costs, increases pasture utilisation and efficiency, and reduces environmental losses — all while improving profitability.
I love talking farming. So if you'd like a 100% free, no-obligation chat about your farm nutrient programme, get in touch. Let's talk.
THE FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM SERIES
Clearing up the confusion and helping farmers see another perspective on fert.
In August of 2025, I decided I'd give the game of Social Media content creation a go telling the story of less, more often.
9 months on, we've quadrupled our following and gone viral a number of times.
The philosophy was simple. Provide easy-to-watch, helpful fertiliser and farming/pasture management content that farmers can learn from. Post a Reel at least once a week (twice every now and again) and see what happens.
Below, we've collated some of our most-watched and interacted with content. Check it out and visit our Facebook or Instagram to follow along.
Trust a Southland team that understands farming
Our philosophy is pretty simple: We are here to help. And we love to talk farming and fertiliser. Give us a call.
